How does an Induction Motor Work?

It was Michael Faraday who discovered the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction back in the 19th century. It is the same phenomenon that induction motors work on. The induction motor consists of two parts. The first is the stator through which current passes. The second is the rotor. When alternating current (AC) passes through the stator windings, a magnetic field is created. When this magnetic field interacts with the rotor, it induces a current in the rotor. This produces another magnetic field in the rotor. The interaction between these two magnetic fields causes the rotor to turn, which produces mechanical energy.
